WHO WE ARE

The Bettering Branch is a youth-led non-profit focused on empowering youths with empathy through connection, education and service. We do this one branch at a time with our 3 main branches of Planet, People & Advocacy.

OUR STORY SO FAR...

The Bettering Branch began with a simple frustration.

We kept hearing that young people were the future. That our generation would change the world. Yet, around us, it often felt like no one really cared. Conversations about social issues were zero to none, whilst talks of academics or the latest trends dominated. Furthermore, LEAPS and compulsory VIAs often framed giving back as a mere checkbox rather than a commitment to community.

We believed young Singaporeans were much more capable than that.

With part of the problem being the infamous fast-paced Singaporean lifestyle, stemming from a competitive academic & social culture, we could understand why some youths did not care. After all, with exams that never seem to end, and 7am to 7pm school days (days with CCA trainings), where could youths find the time to breathe, let alone care about the issues of today?

But that never stopped us. Instead, we decided to build what we could not find: an organisation that allowed busy students (like ourselves) to give back, through not just flexible AND accessible opportunities that lower the barriers to civic engagement, but activities structured in ways that make giving back feel almost natural and as energising as hanging out with friends or doing something you love. Through repeated exposure to these opportunities and activities, we aspire to foster a connection between Singaporean youths and causes, showing them that empathy can complement the fast-paced Singaporean lifestyle, not hinder it.

And so, in January 2024, with no funding, mentors or any institutional support, driven solely by conviction and a dream, The Bettering Branch was born.

Since then, we have only grown exponentially, surpassing our own expectations and goals. As of our last count, we have mobilised more than 600 volunteers, been awarded the Victoria Pioneer Award & impacted more than 1,000 seniors, kids & communities at risk in just 2 years! We look forward to what 2026 brings & to continue branching out for the better!

OUR MISSION

We believe empathy can change the world.

So we hope to lead & champion it amongst youths, while dismantling the 'checkbox' culture of youth volunteerism in Singapore & lowering the barriers to civic engagement through connnection, education & action.

Going beyond just providing accessible volunteering opportunities anymore, we aspire to mentor youths, giving them a platform to connect, empathise, lead & fail without fear.
